Church Thurs 11th Dec at 8pm. Rev. Derek Swann will conduct the Service, Bishop Brendan Kelly will preach the homily. Swinford is the focus parish of our prayer for this week. God waits and nature waits. God is always waiting for us, waiting to be gracious to us, waiting for our hearts to open and allow him show us his goodness, his forgiveness, his love. Nature waits, it gives time for seeds and plants and fruits to grow and waits for harvest time to reap earth's abundance. God waits, nature waits, so must we. Waiting challenges us to realise our dependence, dependence on God, dependence on others. For many this is too much and their waiting becomes an exercise in irritation, an occasion of anger and frustration but waiting, with calmness and serenity, is a creative, a positive, a fulfilling experience. Waiting is an exercise in patience, a challenge to still the eagerness to pull the future into the present; to change the pace of time. Advent is a season of waiting. It invites us to learn the art of waiting, to practise the virtue of patience, to remember with gratitude those who waited for the coming of the Messiah, the prophets, the holy men and women, the Simeons, the Annas, the Marys, the Josephs of Old Testament times, those who filled their waiting with prayer and joyful hope. As the people of the Old Testament waited in prayer for God's graciousness to show itself so are we, in praying for our diocese, waiting for a rebirth of God's Spirit in our hearts, our parishes and our diocese. May our waiting be patient in the awareness that nothing worthwhile in life is sudden.
Prayer of the Faithful will usually be led by Mass Readers as New Church Year begins. Thanks to them for their willingness to lead the prayer.
