Trocaire Box: Enestina (9) lives with her family in a small village in central Malawi. Every day she gets up at 5am & walks a kilometre with her mother to collect water from a small local river. Then she carries a heavy bucket back to their home. The impact of this daily toil is huge & the effects of poor water access reaches every aspect of the community's life. Enestina & the other children in her village are late for school, or are too tired to study because of time spent collecting water. The water they do collect is dirty, which leads to illness & lack of irrigation means crops fail & little food. But each day they have no option. They must collect dirty water from the same river.
Praying for the Diocese 2014: The parish of Bunnanadden (comprising the ancient parishes of Cloonoghil, Kilturra & Kilshalvey which united in 1767) is a rural parish in south Sligo, with the district of Doocastle situated in Co. Mayo. The parish has two churches. The parish church, built in 1829, located in the village of Bunnanadden & dedicated to the Sacred Heart. The church in Killavil built in 1861 & dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. There are two National Schools in the parish Scoil Croí Naofa & Killavil National School. Many thriving community organisations & clubs are centred around the Community Centre (Bunnanadden), the Community Park (Ballinalack), & the Céilí House (Killavil). Traditional Irish music has strong roots in the parish & monuments, dedicated to the memory of former musicians, can be found in Doocastle, Bunnanadden & Killavil.
