Praying for our diocese 2014:  At the start of the year, Bishop Brendan issued an invitation to pray, to pray for God's direction for our diocese and to listen in prayer for that direction. It was an invitation to trust in the power of prayer and 'to find through prayer the joy of believing in Jesus, of being his disciples and of belonging to the church we hold dear'. It was an invitation to open our hearts to what the Holy Spirit is saying to the church in our parishes in our diocese and how we might respond to that Spirit call. Each week over the past months we have named and prayed for all twenty three parishes in the diocese and for the remainder of the year we are encouraging all to continue the prayer for the diocese, to pray the diocesan prayer 'alone or with others; to pray it slowly, mindfully and with absolute trust.' Each week for the coming months a particular parish will be the focus of our prayer and we begin as we did in January with the parish of Achonry/Mullinabreena where our spiritual heritage had its roots. We are grateful for the rich spiritual heritage that has spanned the centuries and for the godly men, women and children who have lived and cherished the faith through the years. It is our challenge now to live and pass on the faith.  May we embrace this challenge with courage, with joy and a sure sense of God's love for each one of us.
