First Holy Communion in Carracastle this Sunday. Congratulations and all God's blessings to the children & their families: Matthew Connor, Jessica Dozio, Hazel Durkan, Bronwyn Fleming, Kyle Horan, Rachel Murphy, Jack Naylor. Thank you to their teacher Mrs Maloney for all her preparation in school & in church, to Miss Hickey & to all who have helped with music & singing, the booklets, flowers, church displays & church grounds preparation. All are invited for refreshments afterwards to Scoil Iosa, kindly provided by the Parents Association.
Praying for the Diocese 2014: Killasser/Callow is a rural parish with two churches, Callow (1811/1812), & Killasser (1832, with virtually a new church built there in 1868), & two schools, Carrowmore & Killasser. It has a number of community organisations, including an active Pastoral Council. The parish has four interesting early church sites in the townlands of Knockmullin, Graffy, Carrowneden & Cullin. Knockmullin is the location of the church St. Lasair is said to have
blessed & given her name. This is the church from which the parish got its name Cill Lasrach, 'the
church of Laisir', later Anglicised as Killasser. It is clear from archaeology, history, traditions and religious practice that Killasser has a long & deep religious heritage. Patrick McNicholas, Bishop of Achonry from May 1818 to February 1852, was a native of the parish. He was the first student from the diocese to enter Maynooth College following its foundation 1795. In 1831, Bishop McNicholas established the see of the diocese in Ballaghaderreen. Fr. John Durkan is parish priest of Killasser.
Achonry Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday 18th May. Ceremonies begin with the Anointing of the Sick at 2.30pm followed by Mass at 3pm. Confessions are available in the Confessional Chapel throughout the day. This year all parishioners are requested to make a special effort to be present as we continue praying for our diocese at this time.
Communion visits to the sick & housebound during the coming week.
Parish Pastoral Council invites all involved in parish ministries in both church areas (sacristans, readers, Ministers of Holy Communion, choirs, collectors, counters, finance committee, offertory gifts, child protection officers, flowers, church displays & maintenance) to meet them in the Community Centre on Thurs. 8th May at 8pm. Light refreshments will be available.
Baptism: We welcome into the Christian Community Joseph Thomas Irwin who was baptised recently in Rooskey Church. Congratulations to his parents Joe & Emma (Duffy).
Best Wishes to Eddie Joe Dooney's Open Farm which welcomed its first visitors over Easter.
Caiseal Gaels: Hard luck to the U16's who were defeated by Tooreen in the league final, 1-9 to 0-4. U12s beat Moytura 6-1 to 4.5.
